5 Points of Life 5K - 8 AM on UF Campus The start and finish areas are located across the street from the UF&Shands Orthopeadics and Sports Medicine Institute in the parking lot of the Phillips Center for Performing Arts on the University of Florida’s campus at Hull Road and SW 34th Street. The 5K route stays on the UF campus taking runners on Mowry Road, down Gale Lemerand Drive, past Fraternity Row and winds scenically by Lake Alice, the Baughman Center, and the renowned Bat House. | 2/20/10 | 3rd Annual STAR Autism Awareness 5K Walk and Run - 9 AM at Westside Park Eastside High School's Students Together for Autism Research (STAR) is organizing this race. Registration is $15 and all proceeds go to the University of Florida Center for Autism and Related Disabilities. Refreshments (bagels, juices, fruit, etc.) will be provided before and after the race. | 3/13/10 | O’Leno State Park Race the Tortoise 5K - 8 AM at O'Leno State Park This is an out-and-back race along the Park's scenic, paved main road. The course is certified (FL09012EBM). The Park is located 6 miles north of High Springs, FL on U.S. Hwy. 441. Profits from the race will help the Park buy an audio-visual system for training and education and finish establishing its nature center. Slow and steady wins the race. That’s the lesson many learn at an early age from the children’s story of the tortoise and the hare. The certified race course is run along the park’s scenic paved main road, and all entrants receive a much-admired “turtle-enhanced” T-shirt. Prize money for Overall and Masters Winners setting course records is provided by Friends of O’Leno, the Park’s Citizen Support Organization and race host. First, second, and third place finishers in each age group receive special “Tortoise Trophies.” The entry fee for children 12 years old and younger is $10; for all others $20 through February 15, 2010, and $25 after this date through race day on March 13, 2010. Entry to the park is free for registered runners and walkers and those riding with them. The race is limited to the first 300 registrants, so sign-up now. The Tortoise encourages you to “Care for your heart, take part.” IMPORTANT!!! You must arrive by 7:30 AM No vehicles will be allowed in or out of the Park from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM for the safety of competitors. Carpooling is greatly appreciated. Packet pickup and in-store registration will be available at Gainesville Running and Walking in the Town of Tioga. 13th Annual Equal Access Clinic 5K Race - 8:00 AM at North Florida
Regional Medical Center The Equal Access 5K is an annual benefit for the Equal Access Clinic, which provides free health care to Gainesville's homeless and indigent population (“Because healthcare is a right, not a privilege…”). There will be a Silent Auction from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM to help raise funds. And, of course, all donations are greatly appreciated!
